FIVE FACETS OF THE BALANCED
CHRISTIAN LIFE
PREFACE
Who is a Christian? Is he one who pleases
God by his own good deeds or works of righteous living—
like keeping a law code or following his conscience and not
hurting others intentionally? Or, is he one whom God selects
to be saved based on some criterion unknown to man?
And what does being a Christian really
mean? Is “once saved, always saved” all there is to God’s Will
for man? Or, does God have a plan for the Christian in time as
preparation for His Purpose throughout Eternity? What exactly
does God mean by the verse that declares,
For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
(Ephesians 2:10) NKJV
Does this verse imply that a Christian has
a responsibility (or is it a privilege?) to serve God with his
life on earth after his Salvation? What is the consequence for
either being a faithful servant or being unworthy?
The purpose of this series of five
booklets, Five Facets of the Balanced Christian Life,
is to answer all of the above questions as objectively as
possible by utilizing only the Bible as a resource. Deliberate
effort will be made NOT to use technically-academic words to
express basic Theological terms. Clear communication is the
objective; not the obscuring of plain meanings that sometimes
results from an attempt to be scholarly. Any term that can be
expressed by words used in normal communication will be
expressed by those words. For example: “omniscience” will be
stated simply as “all-knowing”; “propitiation” will be
described as “that which provides total satisfaction to God
for completely removing man’s sin and its consequence”; and
“hypostasis” will be described as “the inseparability of the
two natures of our Lord—the Deity of Christ and the humanity
of Jesus.“
These
five facets are depicted graphically in the following chart.
